You’ll thank me later.
Film is timeless, nostalgic and the perfect addition to your wedding day. Which is why it’s pretty much a standard for all of my couples and their packages now!
I have a BA in visual arts where I spent three of my four years only working on analog/film photography. My professor thought it was incredibly important for us to learn film by not only shooting with it but also process/develop/print it.
It was the best years of my life learning the ins and outs of film, the settings, and being in the dark room. What I learned from this experience is that even if not every single 36 frames come out “perfect”, they will still tell the story no matter what. Every single shot is intentional and special in its own way.
Here are some more reasons why film should be a “yes please!!” on your wedding day.
The Feeling of Film
I will always recommend film for my couples because everyone wants to be present and really FEEL their photos. Film gives the nostalgic, cozy reminiscence in a different way than digital. From the colors, to the grain, to the intention of that moment, there is so much more feeling that film brings that can not be replicated by a standard digital.
The Aesthetics of Film
It goes without saying that film photos are just beautiful. There’s something about the grain and the depth that makes them so raw, real and aesthetic. There’s a reason they haven’t gone out of style and always make a comeback into wedding packages.
The Authenticity of Film
There is something so raw and so real about film that captures candid moments and memories so perfectly in time. Without retouching or filters, just perfectly imperfect representation of the moment captured. Some of mine and my clients’ favorite photos from their engagement sessions and weddings are the film photos and super 8mm film video, and for good reason! The cozy, natural reality of film and the moments captured make for the best timeless keepsakes.
So if you’re newly engaged and wondering if film should be a part of your big day, the answer is absolutely YES! And if you’re also wondering who the best person to capture your day on film is, take a look at my Instagram and website for some inspo and my portfolio 🙂
